Santillana del Mar
Travelers to Santillana de Mar will find history peeking from every corner. It is an important destination primarily due to the nearby Altamira Cave, known as the Sistine Chapel of prehistoric art. The town itself boasts many monuments, from palaces and noble houses to churches and monasteries, as well as the Museum of the Inquisition. Located in Cantabria along the northern coast of Spain, the cobblestone streets of Santillana del Mar are lined with shops bursting with local specialties, from salty anchovies to delicious cheeses. It is known as the Town of Three Lies, as it is neither a saint, nor flat, nor located on the sea, all of which are implied in its name.
