About Activity
Aqaba, with its clean sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, is an ideal destination for both relaxation and water sports. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, parasailing, water skiing, and jet skiing (all marine activities are at own expense). Known for its well-preserved coral reefs and rich marine life, this Red Sea port city was historically an important trading hub linking the Red Sea with the Far East.
Visit the Mamluk Fort, one of Aqaba’s key historical landmarks, originally built as a Crusader castle and later rebuilt by the Mamluks in the 16th century. The square-shaped fortress is flanked by semicircular towers and features inscriptions from different periods of Islamic history.
Explore the archaeological site of Medieval Islamic Ayla, where ongoing excavations have uncovered city gates, walls, towers, buildings, a mosque, courtyards, and baths. Continue to the Aqaba Archaeological Museum, which displays artifacts from the region including pottery and coins, and also features the residence of Sharif Hussein Bin Ali, great-grandfather of King Abdullah II.
Other points of interest include the site believed to be the world’s oldest known church, the Aqaba Aquarium, and several diving centers along the coastline.
