Day 1: Gateway to Safari — Arrival in Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you clear customs before being met outside the arrivals hall by your driver-guide for the transfer into Arusha. Your hotel for the night is set amid natural riverine woodland on the edge of town, its grounds home to a range of smaller mammals, reptiles and birds drawn by the surrounding vegetation. Comfortable, contemporary rooms and a swimming pool make for an easy first evening to settle in after your flight, a low-key introduction to Tanzania's famed Northern Safari Circuit before the adventure begins in earnest tomorrow.

Day 2: Elephant Country — Onward to Tarangire

Spend the morning at leisure, with optional activities available direct, before a safari briefing and lunch precede your afternoon departure for Tarangire National Park. As Arusha's outskirts give way to open plains dotted with grass-thatched huts and grazing cattle, the wall of the Great Rift Valley rises on the horizon ahead. Tarangire spans 2,850 square kilometers and is named for the river that sustains its famously large elephant herds, alongside more than 550 recorded bird species and abundant baobab-studded scenery. Arrive at your tented lodge on the shores of Lake Burunge, just ten minutes from the park, in time for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Rift Valley Views — Onward to Lake Manyara

Enjoy a morning game drive through Tarangire before lunch at the lodge, then depart for Lake Manyara National Park, arriving at your lodge adjacent to the park in time for dinner. Lake Manyara itself, a shallow alkaline lake covering much of the park's 330 square kilometers, is known for its tree-climbing lions and more than 400 recorded bird species, its terrain shifting from dense groundwater forest to open grassy plains beneath the dramatic backdrop of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. This is one of Tanzania's most compact yet richly diverse parks, offering excellent wildlife viewing in a relatively small area.

Day 4: Endless Plains — Onward to the Serengeti

A morning game drive through Lake Manyara National Park precedes a return to the lodge for lunch, before departing north for the Serengeti. Beyond Naabi Gate, the park's official entrance, game viewing continues en route to your camp for the evening. The Serengeti spans roughly 14,750 square kilometers of savannah grassland and is home to all of Africa's Big Five, alongside cheetah, hyena and the vast herds that make up the annual wildebeest migration, one of the natural world's great spectacles. Your mobile tented camp sits in the heart of central Serengeti, offering an immersive, canvas-walled introduction to the plains.

Day 5: Above the Plains — A Day in the Serengeti

An optional shared hot air balloon safari can be arranged for this morning, at additional cost: a pre-dawn transfer to the launch site, a safety briefing as the balloon inflates, and a sunrise lift-off over the plains, with the pilot alternating between high vantage points and low, silent passes over grazing wildlife. A shared bush breakfast follows landing. For those not ballooning, morning and afternoon game drives cover the Serengeti's grasslands in search of lion, leopard and the resident herds, with meals and overnight taken at your central Serengeti camp, the plains stretching endlessly beyond canvas walls.

Day 6: Descent to the Highlands — Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Depart the camp with game viewing continuing en route to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a picnic lunch served along the way. The route traces the rim of the crater before descending to the village of Karatu, where your lodge for the next two nights sits in the foothills of the Ngorongoro highlands, overlooking a coffee plantation with the crater walls visible in the distance. Ngorongoro Crater itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site home to an estimated 30,000 animals, one of the most densely populated wildlife areas on earth, with the surrounding conservation area also encompassing Olduvai Gorge and Empakai Crater. The afternoon is at leisure.
