Bogotá - Arrival

Arrive at Bogotá’s El Dorado airport and transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Bogotá Cooking Class

Superior Class: Novotel Bogota Parque 93 or similar accommodations

After breakfast, the morning is at leisure to explore the city or take a suggested tour such as the Weaving Peace tour to understand Colombia’s turbulent history and its hopeful future. In the evening, enjoy a cooking class with an expert, discovering the flavors of traditional Colombian cuisine. (B, D)

Bogotá - Pereira

Superior Class: Hacienda Hotel San Jose or similar accommodations

Following breakfast, transfer to Bogotá’s El Dorado airport for your flight to Pereira. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel and check in. The afternoon is at leisure to explore the city. (B)

Pereira – Coffee Plantations - Pijao

Superior Class: Hacienda Hotel San Jose or similar accommodations

After breakfast, depart for a full day visit to the coffee region. First visit Hacienda San Alberto, a traditional coffee estate near the town of Buenavista Quindio. Here you will learn about the production process, taking a tour of the plantation to observe the harvest, discover how sun-drying beans works, and understand why this region offers the perfect climactic conditions for coffee growing. After your tour, enjoy a coffee tasting session guided by a Master Taster in which you will learn about the different tastes and aromas of coffee, different methods of preparation, and the history and characteristics of various coffees. Following the visit to Hacienda San Alberto, continue to Pijao, a charming town that has retained its colonial architecture and cultural heritage. See the historic houses from both outside and inside, meeting the families of each house and admiring their beautiful gardens. Finish off your day with a tasting of traditional local drinks and a visit to Pijao’s central square before returning to your hotel in Pereira. (B)

Pereira – Cartagena

Following breakfast, transfer to the airport and depart for Cartagena. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and check in. The evening is at leisure for exploring this beautiful colonial city or an optional sunset sightseeing tour of the bay. Tonight, have dinner at the trendy Interno restaurant, which serves traditional Cartagenero cuisine and focuses on helping female inmates reintegrate into society. Transfer back to your hotel for an overnight stay. (B, D)

Cartagena – La Boquilla

Superior Class: Ananda Hotel Boutique or similar accommodations

After breakfast, take a half day tour in La Boquilla, a small fishing village just outside Cartagena. Enjoy an iced coconut water upon arrival, then meet a fisherman who will take you in his boat to cross the Cienaga de Juan Polo. He he will teach you about his craft, sharing details of his work and stories that reflect the cultural elements of his community. Afterwards, you will have a cooking class in the house of a local family and learn to cook your morning’s catch on a woodburning stove. Enjoy a typical Colombian meal while you ride through mangrove forests, seeing the colors and diversity of birds and wildlife that inhabit the area. Afterwards, enjoy the beach and taste traditional sweets before returning to Cartagena. (B, L)
