Argentina Horseback Explorer

Arrive at Ezeiza International Airport and transfer by private car to your carefully selected luxury hotel in the prestigious Recoleta or Palermo neighborhood — Buenos Aires announcing itself with immediate and irresistible authority from the very first taxi ride, the broad boulevards and French-inspired architecture of Recoleta giving way to the tree-lined streets and outstanding restaurants of Palermo with a cultural confidence that is entirely and unmistakably Argentine. Check in, settle into your beautifully appointed room, and allow the particular, passionate energy of one of the world's great cities to begin its work over a first, deeply satisfying dinner of outstanding Argentine beef, excellent Malbec, and the warm, unhurried hospitality that Buenos Aires does better than almost anywhere on earth.

A privately guided full day reveals Buenos Aires in all its extraordinary cultural depth and architectural magnificence. Begin at the Plaza de Mayo — the historic heart of the city — before the imposing Casa Rosada, where Juan Perón and Eva Duarte famously delivered their speeches from the central balcony. The vibrant antique district of San Telmo follows — its cobbled streets and weekend market among the most atmospheric in the city — before the colorful waterfront neighborhood of La Boca delivers the birthplace of Tango in a setting of corrugated iron houses painted in every shade of the rainbow. The extraordinary subterranean tunnels and cisterns of the Zanjon de Granados and the magnificent statuary of Recoleta Cemetery — where Evita's much-visited tomb draws quiet pilgrimage from visitors worldwide — complete a day of complete, deeply satisfying urban immersion.

A final Buenos Aires day explores the city's most vibrant and contemporary corners. The morning begins in Palermo Soho — the neighborhood of outstanding independent boutiques, design galleries, and the magnificent Japanese Garden — before the Feria de San Telmo antique market delivers an afternoon of extraordinary browsing through silverware, leather goods, vintage Tango records, and the accumulated treasures of Argentine history. The San Telmo Market building itself — a magnificent 19th-century iron and glass structure — rewards extended exploration before the evening delivers the city's most complete and passionate expression: dinner and a fiery Tango show at one of Buenos Aires' most celebrated performance venues, where skill, drama, and raw emotion combine in an unforgettable finale to three extraordinary days in Argentina's passionate, endlessly compelling capital.

A short domestic flight carries you northwest to Córdoba — Argentina's second largest city and one of the most architecturally beautiful and culturally rich destinations in the country, its magnificent Jesuit Block a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its university the oldest in Argentina. A private transfer delivers you directly to your carefully selected estancia in the Córdoba Sierras — the rolling green hills and ancient granite formations of this extraordinary landscape providing an immediate and dramatic contrast to the flat urban sprawl left behind. Check into your estancia — a beautifully restored traditional Argentine ranch house with private rooms, a swimming pool overlooking the hills, and horses waiting in the paddock — and spend the first evening on the terrace with a glass of Torrontés as the Córdoba sunset paints the sierras in extraordinary shades of gold and copper.

The first morning in the saddle begins with a private briefing from your expert gaucho guide — a lifetime's knowledge of the land, the horses, and the particular rhythms of estancia life distilled into an introduction of genuine warmth and considerable practical wisdom. The ride sets out through the Sierras Chicas — the smaller range of hills immediately east of the city — where ancient granite formations, streams running through eucalyptus and quebracho woodland, and the extraordinary quality of the Córdoba light combine into a landscape of quiet, unhurried beauty. The afternoon brings a private guided tour of Córdoba city — the magnificent Jesuit Block, the Cathedral, the Cabildo, and the vibrant pedestrian streets of the historic center — before the return to the estancia for a traditional asado dinner prepared over an open wood fire as the first gaucho stories of the evening begin.

A full day on horseback ventures deeper into the Córdoba Sierras — the dramatic Sierras Grandes rising to over 2,800 meters and offering a landscape of extraordinary, wild grandeur that most visitors to Argentina never discover. The ride follows ancient gaucho trails through woodland, across open grassland, and along riverbanks alive with birdlife — the condor occasionally visible above the highest ridgelines — before a traditional asado lunch is prepared in the open air by your gaucho guide with the particular, unhurried skill of someone who has been doing this in these hills since childhood. The afternoon ride returns through a different route, the changing light revealing new perspectives on a landscape that rewards every hour spent within it, before the estancia welcomes you back with cold Malbec, hot showers, and a dinner of outstanding regional cuisine.

A private transfer carries you east from the Córdoba Sierras and onto the vast, flat, endlessly horizon-stretching landscape of the Argentine Pampas — the great grassland heartland of South America that stretches from the foothills of the Andes to the Atlantic coast in a landscape of extraordinary, elemental simplicity. Arriving at your carefully selected estancia in the Pampas — a magnificent traditional ranch of several thousand hectares, its colonial main house, swimming pool, and horse paddocks set within a landscape of complete, profound rural tranquility — check in and spend the afternoon in gentle exploration of the property: the stables, the cattle corrals, the windmill-punctuated horizon, and the particular, unhurried rhythm of a working Argentine estancia that has changed remarkably little in a century. The first Pampas dinner — around a long communal table, with empanadas, grilled provoleta, and the finest beef in the world — sets the tone for two outstanding days ahead.

An extraordinary full day of authentic estancia life begins before dawn with the cattle mustering — joining the gauchos on horseback as they round up the herd across the open Pampas in the extraordinary early morning light, the horses moving with instinctive confidence through a landscape of dew-covered grassland and vast, luminous sky. The morning's work complete, the afternoon brings a private polo lesson — the sport that the Argentine Pampas effectively invented and still produces the finest players in the world — followed by demonstrations of traditional gaucho skills: the boleadoras, the lasso, and the extraordinary bond between gaucho and horse that represents one of the most deeply rooted and fascinating cultural traditions in South America. The evening asado — the finest expression of Argentine culinary culture, prepared over a slow wood fire with patience and absolute mastery — closes a day of complete, deeply satisfying Pampas immersion.

A final full day on horseback across the open Pampas delivers the purest and most complete expression of what this extraordinary landscape has to offer — a long ride across the vast grassland in the company of your gaucho guide, the horizon stretching in every direction without interruption, the silence broken only by the wind through the long grass, the creak of leather, and the occasional call of a bird overhead. Rheas stride across the open ground, viscachas sit upright on the fence posts, and the occasional herd of cattle moves in the middle distance — the Pampas in its fullest, most undisturbed expression. A farewell asado of quite extraordinary quality — the entire estancia team gathered around the fire for a final shared meal of remarkable warmth and genuine hospitality — closes three days of complete, irreplaceable Pampas immersion with the particular satisfaction of having experienced Argentina at its most authentic, its most beautiful, and its most deeply felt.
