Touch down in Cape Town and meet your private driver for the transfer to your hotel, perhaps a boutique retreat on the Atlantic Seaboard with views across the water. Rise early for a guided hike up Lion's Head, reaching the summit as dawn breaks over Table Mountain, the city and the Atlantic (or ride the Table Mountain cableway for a gentler alternative). After breakfast, step into the cobbled streets of the Bo-Kaap, where you'll join a local family in their home for a hands-on Cape Malay cooking class, learning the secrets of fragrant curries and samoosas. Spend a lazy afternoon at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, or simply rest before an evening out in the city.

Day 3
Day 3: Harbors and Headlands
Head south with your private guide along the False Bay coast. Browse the antique shops and galleries of Kalk Bay, a colorful fishing village where seals laze in the harbor, then continue to Boulders Beach to meet the African penguin colony. Stand at the windswept tip of Cape Point, where dramatic cliffs drop into the ocean, and return via Chapman's Peak, pausing for views of Hout Bay as the afternoon light softens.
Day 4
Day 4
Day 4: Freedom and the Old Cape
This morning, take the ferry to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years in prison, on a tour led by former political prisoners, a moving and essential Cape Town experience. Back on the mainland, spend the afternoon in Constantia, the oldest wine region in the Southern Hemisphere, where historic estates such as Groot Constantia and Klein Constantia pour wines that once graced European royal tables.
Day 5
Day 5
Day 5: Into the Vineyards
Leave the coast behind as your private driver takes you inland to Franschhoek, a valley founded by French Huguenots and now South Africa's culinary capital. En route, stop at Babylonstoren, a Cape Dutch farm with an extraordinary edible garden, for a garden tour and farm-to-table lunch. Check into your country hotel amid the vines and settle in for a leisurely evening at one of the valley's celebrated restaurants.
Day 6

Start the morning on horseback, riding through the vineyards with the mountains rising around you (or, if you prefer, explore by e-bike). Later, hop aboard the Franschhoek Wine Tram to visit historic estates for tastings of Cap Classique and Chardonnay. Spend the afternoon wandering the village's galleries and chocolatiers, then enjoy a tasting menu paired with wines from the surrounding valleys.

Day 7: Wings Over the Lowveld
Transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your direct flight to Skukuza, watching the landscape change from mountains and ocean to endless bushveld. Your ranger meets you for the drive into the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, a private wilderness that shares unfenced borders with Kruger National Park, where wildlife moves freely across the region. Arrive in time for tea before your first afternoon drive, perhaps encountering a herd of elephants crossing the track or a pride of lions resting in the shade.
Day 8
Day 8
Day 8: The River's Edge
Wake before dawn to the calls of hornbills and set out as mist lifts from the Sand River. Your ranger and tracker follow fresh tracks through the bush, reading the stories written in the sand overnight, and in this reserve famed for its leopards, you may find one draped over a branch in the early light. After brunch at the lodge, spend the heat of the day on your private deck watching for elephants and antelope at the waterhole, then head out again as the afternoon cools, stopping for sundowners as the sky turns amber.
Day 9
Day 9
Day 9: Wild on Foot
Today, experience the Sabi Sand at ground level with a morning walking safari led by an armed ranger, following animal paths, examining tracks and learning how the smallest creatures shape this vast ecosystem. After a restful afternoon, perhaps with a spa treatment (additional cost), set out on an evening drive that continues after dark, spotlights picking out the eyeshine of genets, bushbabies and hunting predators.
Day 10
Day 10
Day 10: Last Light in the Sabi Sand
Make the most of your final full day in the reserve, following up on the week's sightings or searching for the species that have so far eluded you, whether a leopard on the prowl or a rare pack of wild dogs. This evening, the lodge sets up a bush dinner by lantern light (lodge dependent), with the sounds of the African night all around, a magical farewell to the wilderness.

Day 11
Day 11: To the Smoke That Thunders
After an early breakfast, your private driver collects you for the scenic transfer of around two to two and a half hours through the Lowveld to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport near Nelspruit, for your direct flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, just under two hours north. On arrival, transfer to your hotel, perhaps the grand Edwardian Victoria Falls Hotel, whose terraces look out over the gorge and the spray of the falls rising like smoke on the horizon. In the late afternoon, board a sunset cruise on the upper Zambezi, watching elephants wade between islands and hippos surface beside the boat as the sun sinks into the river.

Day 12: Into the Mist
This morning, your private guide leads you along the rainforest trail on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls. Viewpoints open onto the Devil’s Cataract, the Main Falls and the sheer drop at Danger Point, with rainbows arcing through the spray. For a bird’s-eye view, take a helicopter “Flight of Angels” over the falls and the zigzagging Batoka Gorge (additional cost). Later, stroll to the historic Victoria Falls Bridge, then return to your hotel for afternoon tea on the terrace, gazing across the gorge as the spray drifts skyward.
Day 13
Day 13
Day 13: Elephants of the Chobe
Cross into Botswana on a full-day excursion to Chobe National Park, home to one of the largest elephant populations in Africa. After a short drive to the border near Kasane, board a boat for a morning cruise on the Chobe River. Herds come down to drink and bathe, crocodiles bask on the banks and fish eagles call overhead. Following lunch at a riverside lodge, set out on an afternoon game drive in search of lion, buffalo, giraffe and sable antelope, before returning to Victoria Falls in the early evening for a farewell dinner.

At the appropriate time, your private driver transfers you to Victoria Falls Airport for your onward flight, carrying memories of Cape Town’s mountains, Franschhoek’s vineyards, the leopards of the Sabi Sand and the thunder of the Zambezi.
