Arrive in the dynamic city of Denver, Colorado, where the day is yours to uncover the Mile High City's vibrant charm at your own pace. Explore the lively LoDo district's converted warehouses and rooftop patios, browse the boutiques and galleries along Larimer Square, or take in sweeping mountain views from one of the city's many downtown parks. History and culture are close at hand as well, from the Denver Art Museum to the gold-leafed dome of the state capitol, while the city's celebrated food and craft brewing scene makes for an easy first-night dinner out. Settle in for an overnight stay in Denver, well rested for tomorrow's departure into the mountains.

Day 2: Denver to Glenwood Springs

Depart Denver onboard Canyon Spirit, where breakfast and lunch are served alongside a selection of included snacks and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The train climbs steadily toward the Continental Divide, breathtaking views of rugged canyons and the winding Colorado River tracing the route as the high country unfolds outside the window, including the dramatic narrows of Glenwood Canyon. Onboard service continues at a relaxed pace, leaving plenty of time to simply watch the mountains roll by. By late afternoon, arrive in the charming resort town of Glenwood Springs, tucked into a river valley and long known for its natural hot springs, where you'll spend the night before continuing west.

Day 3: Glenwood Springs to Moab

Depart Glenwood Springs aboard Canyon Spirit, starting the day with a hearty breakfast followed by a light lunch. The train crosses the Colorado-Utah border, mountain views gradually giving way to emerging red sandstone landscapes as the terrain grows more dramatic with every mile. Layered mesas and canyon walls signal the approach to Moab, gateway to both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and one of the most striking landscapes in the American Southwest. Arrive by evening and settle into your hotel for the first of three nights in this desert adventure town, with the rest of your stay still ahead.

With a full day to explore at your own pace, Moab's setting makes it easy to build a day around whatever kind of adventure suits you. Outdoor recreation options run the gamut — mountain biking on slickrock trails, off-road jeep tours through canyon backcountry, hot air balloon rides over the red rock desert, or a rafting or flatwater float trip along the Colorado River — and the town's proximity to two national parks means a scenic drive or a full day inside Arches or Canyonlands is never far out of reach. Prefer a slower pace? Spend the afternoon browsing Downtown Moab's independent boutiques, art galleries, and local restaurants, many with patios overlooking the surrounding cliffs. Spend another day experiencing more of what Moab has to offer, with fresh ground still left to cover after yesterday's adventures. Consider a visit to Dead Horse Point State Park for panoramic views of the Colorado River carving through the canyon below, an afternoon exploring Moab's growing arts and dining scene, or a return trip to a favorite trail or overlook worth seeing again. However the day unfolds, settle in for a third and final overnight stay in Moab, with tomorrow's journey back toward the mountains still ahead.

Depart Moab in the early afternoon aboard Canyon Spirit, where a delicious, locally inspired light lunch and dinner are served as the train pulls away from the red rock desert that has defined the past several days. The route crosses back over the Utah-Colorado border, mountain peaks rising in the distance as the scenery shifts once again from sandstone canyons to forested foothills and river valleys. By evening, the train arrives in the resort town of Glenwood Springs, where you'll spend the night before the final leg of the journey back to Denver.

Depart Glenwood Springs aboard Canyon Spirit, savoring breakfast and lunch as the train begins its climb toward the Continental Divide once more. The train soon descends into the Denver metro area, arriving in the vibrant city of Denver by late afternoon or early evening. Spend the night back in the Mile High City, with one more full day ahead before your journey concludes.
