Saariselka Safari

Superior First Class: Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort or similar accommodations

The snowmobile safari takes you to the small ski village of Saariselkä, situated approximately ten kilometers away. Transfer by private vehicle from the hotel to the safari office where you will receive full equipment, including a thermal suit, boots, socks, gloves, balaclava and helmet. An all-important safety and operation lesson follows. When everybody is ready, the safari trail begins with a drive up to the beautiful Kaunispää fell, 436m above sea level. At the top of the fell you can enjoy the magnificent views of the area below. The trail then continues through the beautifully mystical forest. This safari excursion is two hours long and includes an en-route coffee break. Two persons can share one snowmobile and take turns in driving or you can request one for sole occupancy at a supplementary cost. This safari provides an everlasting memory of true excitement in Finnish Lapland! When you return from your wintery adventure, enjoy a warming lunch of steaming soup to take away the chill. (B,L,D)

Today, you will have the morning and afternoon at leisure to wander through the village and take in the beauty of Finnish Lapland. Lake Inari Ice Fishing

Superior First Class: Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort or similar accommodations

Leave the comfort and warmth of your igloo for a cultural and adventurous outing to Lake Inari, about a one hour drive from your hotel, and the second largest lake in Finland with almost 4,000 islands. The whole lake is frozen over, giving it a truly magical appearance. Here you will enjoy a snowmobile ride across the frozen lake to your fishing spot. Your guide will provide you with safety equipment and operational instructions before your shared tour adventure. You’ll have the chance to prepare the ice by drilling a hole through the thick surface. Drop in your lines and sit back and listen to the silence around you and admire the scenery - it’s like meditation! Naturally, there’s also the anticipation of catching a fish, but it’s only one part of the experience! After fishing, it’s time for a nice, traditional soup lunch by a roaring fire. After lunch, you will continue your journey back to Inari where you will have one more memorable experience waiting; a visit to the Sami museum, Side, meaning a Lappish reindeer village, where you will learn about the fascinating culture of the only indigenous people in the European Union. (B,L,D)

Day

5

Kakslauttanen - Rovaniemi

Superior First Class: Arctic Treehouse Hotel or similar accommodations

After breakfast, a private transfer will take you from Kakslauttanen to Rovaniemi and the Arctic Treehouse hotel. The concept of Arctic Tree House Hotel has its roots in the fragile arctic nature, the fairytale-like world of Santa Park, and northern culture and heritage. The hotel consists of individual accommodation units covered by wooden shingles, each standing on tall poles between the trees. Appearing to wander down the hill and curiously peeking at the landscape and sky, they blend into their environment effortlessly. All the buildings are made of Finnish wood, a traditional, sustainable and renewable material. The green roof helps in managing urban runoff and brings the building’s carbon footprint’s worth of vegetation back to the construction site. The wood on the interior surfaces creates a comfortable environment, healthy indoor air and pleasant acoustics. After check-in, you can use the rest of the day explore Rovaniemi, enjoy your unique accommodation and experience its nature activities such as reindeer safaris, husky safaris and snowmobile safaris. (B,D)

Day

6

Santa Claus Safari

Superior First Class: Arctic Treehouse Hotel or similar accommodations

Our most popular safari combines nature, culture and the spirit of Christmas. The day starts with a shared snowmobile safari to a reindeer farm where you will hear more about reindeer husbandry and Lappish culture. Come and discover the secrets of Santa Claus and his trusted helpers! Meet Mr. Father Christmas himself, visit Santa’s Official Post Office, do some shopping and enjoy delicious lunch. After lunch, we head for the snow mobiles and drive to a local reindeer farm. Meet the reindeer, try a short reindeer sleigh ride, take part in a special “Crossing of the Arctic Circle” ceremony and after a splendid day we return back to the city by snowmobiles. Crossing the Arctic Circle Certificate is given to you as a gift at the end of the safari. (B,L,D) Operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays

Superior First Class: Arctic Treehouse Hotel or similar accommodations
