The hotel grounds are beautiful. We went in June when everything was lush and green and humming with summer. It drizzled a little, but that gave it its own charm, and the next day cleared right up! We soaked in a private hot-spring bath made of wood! There was even a free taxi for the trip back—so convenient! The service was excellent all around.

The Suiran is located in a beautiful setting in Arashiyama. The bamboo forest, the Tenryu-ji temple and the Togetsukyo Bridge are right outside the door. The Ryokan styled rooms are beautiful and well appointed. The happy hour overlooking the Katsura River and our daily breakfast were elegant. The staff is over the top. Special shoutout to the attentive and enthusiastic Rei who was very helpful. The hotel is located about 30 minutes from Higashiyama and the older part of Kyoto. This is the relaxed and peaceful way to experience Kyoto.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto, and it was truly a wonderful experience. The location is perfect—peaceful and surrounded by beautiful nature, making it an ideal place to relax while still being close to Kyoto’s famous attractions. The service was exceptional throughout my stay. The in-room Japanese staff member was especially attentive, professional, and kind. I really appreciate her dedication and excellent hospitality. The guest service team was also very helpful and ensured everything went smoothly. The food was another highlight of my stay. I tried both the traditional Japanese meal and the American breakfast, and both were amazing in quality and taste. Everything was beautifully prepared and delicious. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kyoto. Thank you to the entire team for such a memorable stay.
We stayed at Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto on April 15, and it was a truly memorable experience. As a Marriott member, I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a suite. The room was spacious and beautifully designed, featuring a private Japanese garden and an in-room onsen, which meant we could enjoy a relaxing hot spring experience without visiting the public bath. The hotel’s location is excellent—just a short walk to iconic attractions such as Arashiyama, Togetsukyo Bridge, Tenryu-ji Temple, and the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Upon arrival, Mai provided a warm welcome and a detailed introduction to the hotel facilities and nearby dining options. We are especially grateful to her for arranging a rickshaw tour around Arashiyama. The hotel offers a complimentary 12-minute experience, with the option to extend at your own cost. In my opinion, this is absolutely worth doing and became one of the highlights of our trip. One of the hotel’s most distinctive features is its stunning Japanese garden. With fewer than 40 rooms, the property feels very private and peaceful—perfect for anyone looking to relax and unwind in a quiet, refined setting. Highly recommended, and I would definitely choose to stay here again.
One of the best stays I’ve had across luxury properties in Japan. I only wish I could have stayed longer. The food was excellent, and the overall atmosphere at Suiran, Luxury Collection is truly something special, peaceful, refined, and unlike anywhere else. Although my nightly upgrade request couldn’t be accommodated due to full occupancy, the team pleasantly surprised me at check-in with an upgrade to a room featuring a private onsen. That made all the difference; I felt completely relaxed and genuinely happy throughout my stay, to the point where I didn’t want to leave. A special thank you to Mai and Sunil for making our stay so memorable. Their hospitality really elevated the entire experience.
