Next, discover the Sacred Valley and enjoy an authentic Peruvian lunch at a local restaurant. Enjoy a scenic train ride through the Sacred Valley to visit Machu Picchu. Continue your travels to Puerto Maldonado where you will enjoy a 25 minute canoe ride along the Madre de Dios River. Hike along the Concepcion Trails through Peruvian rainforests to warm up for your hike through the Tambopata National Reserve to Lake Sandoval. Enjoy the vibrant wild life surrounding you during this adventurous travel experience.

1

Lima - Arrival

First Class: Casa Andina Select Miraflores or similar accommodations

Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Join an afternoon sightseeing tour, which explores Lima's modern districts of San Isidro and Miraflores, as well as its historic center including Plaza Mayor, the Government Palace, the Archbishop's Palace and City Hall.

Lima - Cusco

First Class: Novotel Cusco or similar accommodations

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Cusco (not included). Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon join a tour of Cusco, starting with a visit of the Temple of Koricancha. After a stop at Plaza de Armas, continue your journey to the colonial church of San Cristobal and later to Sacsayhuaman, a hilltop fortress that overlooks the city of Cusco. Proceed to Qenko, the temple dedicated to Mother Earth. Before heading back to Cusco stop at Puca Pucara (the red fortress). (B)

Cusco - Sacred Valley

Today discover the best of the Sacred Valley. Start your day with a visit of the Inca's Balcony, in Chinchero, a beautiful place with an impressive view, where twelve families still preserve their traditional customs, showing you the ancestral way in which they process wool, and obtain those vivid colors for their textiles. Later, arrive in Moray, an impressing pre-Inca greenhouse. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Afterwards, continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire, and one of the few places where the Spanish conquistadors lost a major battle. Very well known for its "andenes" (terraces dug into the slopes of mountains for agricultural purposes), Ollantaytambo was a highly effective fortress, that also served as a temple. Overnight in Sacred Valley. (B,L)

Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu - Cusco

First Class: Novotel Cusco or similar accommodations

A small coach will take you to Ollanta Train Station to start your 1.5-hour train journey through the Sacred Valley to the legendary ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. On arrival a small coach will take you up the steep roads to the entrance of the citadel. Visit one of the great wonders of the world. It will be an unforgettable experience, where a professional guide tell you about the history of this mysterious and charming place. After some free time to explore the area on your own, descent to Aguas Calientes where you will have lunch. In the afternoon, board the train back to Cusco. (B,L)

Cusco - Puerto Maldonado

First Class: Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion or similar accommodations

You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado (not included). Upon arrival you will embark on a 25-minute canoe ride along the Madre de Dios River to the Hacienda Concepcion Lodge. Enjoy your lunch before walking along the Concepcion Trails and discovering the rainforest. In the evening you will board the boats to see the magical river at twilight filled with colorful beauty and wildlife. (B,L,D)

Hacienda Concepcion

First Class: Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion or similar accommodations

Trek through the Tambopata National Reserve to Lake Sandoval. This lake is home to giant river otters, howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, turtles and black caimans. After lunch explore the jungle from the platforms, 100 feet above the ground. Watch for bright toucans, trogons, and monkeys. (B,L,D)

Puerto Maldonado - Lima

First Class: Casa Andina Select Miraflores or similar accommodations

After sunrise enjoy a canoe ride in the lagoon of the Hacienda Conception. Try fishing the native way using conservation techniques while enjoying the scenery and observing animals. Later in the day you will retrace the river and head back to Puerto Maldonado for your flight to Lima (not included). Upon arrival in Lima, you will be transferred to your hotel.
