Itinerary

Day

1

Madrid – Arrival – La Rioja

Upon arrival at Madrid airport, pick up your rental car and drive to La Rioja, the most prestigious of all Spanish wine regions. Visit a traditional winery which was founded 125 years ago and is still run by the direct descendants of the founding family. At the end of the tour, enjoy a wine tasting. Stay overnight in Logroño, the capital of La Rioja.

Explore La Rioja

This morning, explore the town before heading to the wine museum occupies a space of over 2 acres and features grape wines from around the world. Enjoy a gourmet lunch with wine surrounded by the incredible landscapes of vineyards. In the afternoon, we suggest visiting the historical city of Burgos, founded in the 9th century, and admire its magnificent Gothic Cathedral. (B,L)

La Rioja Winery

In the morning, enjoy another winery visit in La Rioja. The new landmark, a member of the Luxury Collection, Marques the Riscal Winery, was designed by renowned architect Frank O. Gehry. Visit the winery with contemporary techniques in a unique building. At the end of the tour, enjoy a wine tasting. In the afternoon, you may wish to visit the 13th century medieval walled village of Laguardia or the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos. (B)

La Rioja – Madrid – Return

Today, before dropping off your rental car in Madrid, you may wish to stop in Alcala de Henares, a World Heritage City by UNESCO and one of the oldest university towns in Europe. It is also the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, author of the masterpiece Don Quixote. (B)
