Day 1
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi — Jambo, Kenya
Kenya welcomes you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where your representative is on hand to meet you and accompany you to your hotel in Nairobi. Check-in opens at around 14:00, and the afternoon is yours to spend as you please, whether catching up on sleep or enjoying a cool drink beside the pool. Travelers arriving in the early morning can make the most of the extra hours with an optional excursion (additional cost). Choose from the elephant orphanage at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the Out of Africa Excursion to the world of Karen Blixen, or the Nai Nami Cultural Walking Tour through the heart of the city. Dine at leisure this evening and rest well. Tomorrow your private safari begins.

Day 2
Day 2: Nairobi to the Masai Mara — Your Safari Begins
Meet your driver-guide after breakfast and climb aboard the safari vehicle that will be yours alone for the week. Head out of Nairobi and up through the lush green highlands to the rim of the Great Rift Valley, pausing at a viewpoint if you wish to take in the scale of the landscape below. The road descends past a small chapel built by Italian prisoners of war and the Longonot Earth Satellite Station, then runs west through Narok and across broad golden fields of wheat and barley. By lunchtime you are in the world-renowned Masai Mara. After a meal and a short rest, enjoy your first game drive in the soft afternoon light, returning as the sun sets over the savannah.

Day 3: Masai Mara — A Day Among the Predator
Today is given over to the Masai Mara. Following breakfast, your driver-guide takes you out on a morning game drive, choosing the route according to the latest sightings and your own interests. Lion prides, solitary leopards and fleet-footed cheetahs hunt here, among great gatherings of zebra, wildebeest, topi and gazelle, and having a private vehicle means you can stay with the action for as long as it lasts. Come back mid-morning to relax before lunch. Later, a second game drive includes a stop at a Masai village to meet members of the community and hear about their traditions and daily life. Return at sunset. An optional hot-air balloon safari over the plains can be pre-booked for this morning (additional cost).

Day 4
Day 4: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru — The Soda Lake
After breakfast, say goodbye to the Mara and travel through Narok and Kenya's agricultural heartland to the Rift Valley floor. Lunch is included today, together with a game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. Set around a shimmering soda lake, the park packs remarkable variety into a small area, from open grassland and acacia woodland to rocky cliffs with views over the water. It is best known as a refuge for black and white rhinos and the endangered Rothschild giraffe, while flamingoes, pelicans and hundreds of other bird species feed along the shore. With your own vehicle, there is no need to hurry. Arrive at your accommodation in the Lake Nakuru and Lake Elmenteita area at sunset, ready for dinner.

Day 5: Rift Valley to Amboseli — South to the Mountain
An early breakfast sets you up for the journey from the Rift Valley to Amboseli, in the far south of the country. Your driver-guide heads towards Nairobi, stopping for lunch on the way, which is served either as a hot meal or as a picnic depending on travel conditions. From the capital, continue across the Athi Plains, a broad sweep of grassland where giraffe, zebra and gazelle are sometimes seen from the road. As you near the Tanzanian border, the great outline of Mount Kilimanjaro begins to fill the horizon, cloud permitting. Enter Amboseli National Park in the late afternoon, with your first wildlife sightings along the way to your lodge, and settle in for dinner and a well-earned rest.

Day 6
Day 6: Amboseli National Park — Land of Giants
Wake to what many consider the finest view in East Africa: Mount Kilimanjaro at dawn, its snow-capped dome glowing pink above the plains, weather permitting. Today's morning and afternoon game drives explore Amboseli at an easy pace. The park's elephants are its great attraction, and family herds led by wise old matriarchs can be watched at close range as they wade through the emerald swamps. Buffalo, hippo, zebra and wildebeest share the wetlands, and lion, cheetah and hyena patrol the open, dusty ground beyond. Birdlife is rich too, with more than 400 species recorded. Your driver-guide knows where to position the vehicle for that classic photograph of elephants framed against the mountain, a picture to treasure long after you leave.

Day 7: Amboseli to Nairobi — The Road Home
There is time this morning for an early breakfast and one last look at Mount Kilimanjaro, weather permitting, before you leave Amboseli and turn north for Nairobi. The drive back across the plains is a chance to reflect on a week that has taken you from the grasslands of the Masai Mara to the lakes of the Rift Valley and the foot of Africa's highest mountain. On arrival in the capital in the early afternoon, your driver-guide takes you directly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight, or to the city center hotel of your choice if you are staying on. Here your private safari ends, with a camera full of photographs and stories to share at home.
