Begin your adventure in Portland, Maine, where you’ll find cobblestone streets, picturesque views, and a thriving food scene. Spend your afternoon strolling along the waterfront and enjoying a quintessentially-Maine lobster roll at a local restaurant.

Explore the highlights of Portland, beginning with the iconic Portland Head Lighthouse, which was commissioned by George Washington in 1791. Browse the many museums and galleries, including the Portland Museum of Art, climb the stairs of the historic Portland Observatory, or discover Portland’s history by following the city’s Freedom Trail. And of course, you’ll want to experience Portland’s celebrated culinary scene, from classic New England fare like lobster bisque to local specialties like blueberry pie and Maine mashed potatoes.

Portland - Bar Harbor

Continue the ultimate Maine road trip by heading next to Bar Harbor, the gateway to Acadia National Park and a charming seaside town in its own right. Take the scenic US Route 1 through quaint towns and lush forests. There are plenty of gems along the way, like Freeport, home of LL Bean and a hub for outlet shopping, Wiscasset, the self-proclaimed “prettiest town in Maine” or the historic coastal town of Boothbay Harbor. In Bar Harbor, spend some time perusing the boutiques and cafes along the harborfront and take a stroll down the shoreline path.

Savor the fresh sea-salt air and breathtaking beauty of Acadia National Park today. Watch the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain, go boating on Great Long Pond, experience the booming waves at Thunder Hole, spot seals, peregrine falcons, and other abundant wildlife, and so much more.

Bar Harbor - Boston

Leave behind the tranquil nature and head for the bustling city of Boston, jam-packed with exciting historic and cultural attractions. Get out on the water with a harbor tour, sample local craft beers, and make sure you have some Boston Cream Pie for dessert!

Boston Discovery

Spend the day discovering this historic city. The compact, walkable nature of Boston means it’s easy to see a lot in a short time. Start in Boston Common (dating from 1634, it’s the oldest public park in the United States), take a ride in one of the iconic swan boats, then walk the Freedom Trail to learn about some of the city’s most important historic landmarks. Sports fans may want to take a tour of Fenway Park or catch a game at the TD Garden, while the arts-inclined might want to view the spectacular collections of the Museum of Fine Arts or Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Top off your day with a delicious bowl of clam chowder or baked beans.

Today, take a day trip to Cape Cod to visit its many charming towns: Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Hyannis, and more. Or stay in Boston and explore its treasures.
