Your journey begins with a transfer from OR Tambo International Airport to Rovos Rail's magnificent private station in Pretoria, where the train departs late morning heading north toward Zimbabwe. Settle into your beautifully appointed suite, find a seat in the lounge or observation car, and let the golden Highveld plains begin to work their quiet magic. Meals are served throughout the day in the elegantly appointed dining cars as the landscape shifts northward and the adventure gathers momentum. Day 2: Into Zimbabwe
Border formalities mark a significant moment as the train crosses into Zimbabwe and the landscape transforms dramatically — ancient baobab trees rising from the red earth like sculptures placed there by some unhurried giant hand. The day unfolds entirely at the pleasure of the journey itself: breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and a formal dinner served as the train travels through baobab country toward Mpopoma, the bush deepening and darkening beautifully around the carriages. The observation car proves irresistible throughout, the ever-changing Zimbabwean interior offering a masterclass in the art of simply watching the world go by.

Day 3: Hwange National Park
The morning delivers one of the journey's most remarkable geographical moments — the train travels one of the longest straight stretches of railway on earth, 114 unbroken kilometers between Gwaai and Dete, running along the eastern boundary of Hwange National Park with a grandeur that perfectly mirrors the wilderness beyond. An afternoon game drive at The Hide brings close encounters with Hwange's extraordinary wildlife — Zimbabwe's largest national park is home to one of Africa's greatest elephant populations alongside lion, wild dog, and exceptional birdlife. A formal dinner is served as the train continues toward Victoria Falls, anticipation building beautifully with every passing mile.

Day 4: Victoria Falls
The train arrives at Victoria Falls Station late morning — journey's end, and the beginning of a stay at the legendary Stanley & Livingstone, your base for two nights of pure indulgence in one of Africa's most celebrated destinations. An afternoon tour of the falls themselves provides the first encounter with Mosi-oa-Tunya — "the smoke that thunders" — a spectacle of such overwhelming scale and beauty that no amount of anticipation quite prepares you for the moment it comes into full, thundering view. Day 5: Victoria Falls
A morning helicopter "Flight of Angels" — twelve unforgettable minutes above the falls — reveals Victoria Falls from its most breathtaking perspective, the full 1.6-kilometre curtain of falling water laid out below in all its extraordinary drama. No photograph does justice to the view from above. As the afternoon light softens toward evening, a sunset boat cruise on the mighty Zambezi River provides the perfect counterpoint — hippos drifting in the shallows, crocodiles on the banks, and the spray of the falls catching the last golden light as drinks are served on the water.
