Ecuador Amazon Escapade

Begin your adventure to the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin with a private transfer from your hotel in Quito to the airport for your short flight to Coca, over the Andes Mountains. Upon arrival, meet your driver for your private transfer from the airport to Port Francisco de Orellana to embark on a covered motor boat down the Napo River, observing exotic birds flying overhead. Upon arrival to Napo Wildlife Center, take a moment to freshen up, then embark on a carved out canoe down a narrow creek to the lodge. Once at the lodge, enjoy the spectacular lakeside location with a welcome drink. Enjoy dinner at the lodge then consider an optional nocturnal wildlife safari. (L,D)

This morning, you’ll visit the best parrot clay licks in Ecuador. Depart the lodge early and paddle downstream along the Anangu Creek. Once your boat reaches the welcome area, switch to a motor boat for a 10-minute ride offering an incredible view of thousands of parrots flocking to eat clay. Later, return to the welcome center for a short hike to the parakeets’ clay lick to watch these cobalt-winged birds dine on the mineral rich earth. Return to the welcome center for lunch then, in the afternoon, visit the interpretation area to see the traditions of the ancestral Kichwa community. Return to the lodge in the late afternoon for a refreshing fresh fruit juice and dinner. (B,L,D)

After breakfast, experience the life above the forest floor by visiting the 36m canopy tower. The canopy tower opens a whole new world of colorful tropical birds and exotic mammals. Return to the lodge for a traditional Ecuadorian lunch followed by some free time to climb the dining room tree tower or kick back in a hammock. Later this afternoon, hike through a marvelous terra firme forest to discover the ecology and the role of the native plants in the complex ecosystem of the rainforest. After the hike, explore the surrounding creeks with the possibility of running into a giant otter family. Return to the lodge for dinner. (B,L,D)

After an early breakfast, join your final excursion by canoeing back to the Napo River. Your journey back up river may reveal to you a world of flora and fauna such as Monk Saki monkeys and black-capped donacobius. Your canoe will return you to Coca for your return flight to Quito. Upon arrival in Quito, you may board your connecting flight or meet your driver for a transfer to your hotel or train station to continue on to your next destination. (B,L)
