Arrival - Quito

Welcome to Quito! Upon arrival at Mariscal Sucre Quito International Airport, you will be met by your private driver and will be driven approximately 1 to 1 and a half hours to the accommodation of your choice. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.

Quito

Today explore Quito with its rich cultural legacy, ornate facades, and dazzling gilt altars. Major attractions include the Basilica del Voto Nacional, the Independence Square, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Government Palace as well as other buildings that are representative of colonial art and architecture. You may wish to visit the Church and Convent of Santo Domingo and the traditional Calle La Ronda, where you will have the opportunity to learn how to play with a spinning yoyo. Enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the hill of Panecillo or Itchimbia or take a short trip to the north of Quito where the Intinan Museum will guide you through the wonderful world of the Andean Cosmo vision, culture and traditions and you can stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern hemisphere.

Consider venturing outside the city for a day trip to the renowned Otavalo Market, a journey that promises awe-inspiring beauty. An early start will guide you north through a picturesque drive into the province of Imbabura, a land of enchanting lakes and majestic mountains. Your first destination is the Quitsato Sundial, a remarkable stone mosaic spanning 170 feet in diameter. This intricate sundial is adorned with lines that mark solstices, time of day, and the profound influence of the Center of the World on everyday life. The Northern Highlands are home to the Otavalo Community, celebrated worldwide for their ancient weaving patterns and textiles that predate the Spanish conquest. Nearby lies the charming town of Peguche, renowned for its craftsmanship in crafting wind instruments such as sikus, kenas, and charangos. You'll have the unique opportunity to visit a traditional home in this region before returning to Quito, capturing the essence of your day's journey, as the sun sets over the horizon.

If you're seeking an immersive natural experience, you should definitely explore the captivating landscapes of either the Bellavista Cloud Forest or Cotopaxi National Park. Nestled within the Andes, the Bellavista Cloud Forest is a haven for biodiversity. This lush paradise is shrouded in mist and teeming with unique flora and fauna. It's a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers, offering a chance to reconnect with the vibrant beauty of Ecuador's cloud forests. For those craving adventure, Cotopaxi National Park is a volcanic wonderland. Its centerpiece, Cotopaxi Volcano, stands tall and powerful, beckoning you to explore its rugged trails and high-altitude ecosystems. Quito - Departure

Check out of your hotel and meet your private driver and English-speaking assistant for the approximate 1 to 1-and-a-half-hour transfer to Mariscal Sucre Quito International Airport where you will check-in for your onward flight.
