Welcome to San Jose! Upon arrival to Juan Santamaría International Airport, you will be met by your driver and local representative for a private transfer to your hotel. Your representative will brief you on your travel details and assist with check-in at your hotel.

After breakfast, you will meet your driver for a private transfer to the airport for a short flight to Tortuguero. Upon arrival, you will board a private boat for transfer to Tortuga Lodge & Gardens where a refreshing cocktail and savory lunch will be waiting. In the afternoon, you may wish to take an optional tour or enjoy the gardens, hiking trails and relaxing hammocks surrounding the lodge. (B,L,D)

This morning, you will depart the lodge by private boat, accompanied by a naturalist guide, to explore the creeks of Tortuguero National Park for a look at some of the exotic flora and fauna found in the region. After your river safari, return to the lodge for lunch then visit the small town of Tortuguero for a shared tour. Take time to explore the town and learn its history before returning to the lodge for dinner. (B,L,D)

After breakfast, board your boat for a private transfer to Tortuguero pier then meet your driver for a private transfer deep inside a protected zone, on the banks of the Pacuare River, to Pacuare Lodge. The perfect way to explore one of Costa Rica’s most exquisite rainforests, the Pacuare Lodge was built with special attention to the surrounding hillside topography. (B,L,D)

Spend an exciting day discovering everything the lodge has to offer. A wide range of activities and unique experiences can be organized, including hiking, canopy tours and specialty dining in the treetops. A selection of walks are included, such as canopy walks, bird watching and rural experiences, and many other activities are available for an additional cost. Relax in the tranquil surroundings and enjoy the rustic charm of this unique lodge. Note: Two lodge activities a day are included in this itinerary. These are offered on a shared basis. Private activities can be arranged ahead of time at an additional cost. (B,L,D)

Enjoy a final breakfast at the lodge before departing by shared raft for a fun-filled day of white-water rafting. Careen over class III-IV rapids followed by a rejuvenating picnic lunch along the river. Your rafting adventure will end in Puerto Viejo where you can enjoy the town's laid-back Caribbean style. Today you will enjoy a private tour to the Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve where you will visit the iguana farm and medicinal plant garden. A small, indigenous family dedicates their efforts to the reproduction of the Green Iguana, an endangered species. You will visit another indigenous Bri-Bri family to enjoy a brief tour learning about the properties and uses of some of the medicinal plants grown here. This experience also allows you to learn the significance of chocolate in Bri-Bri culture as it is used in purification rituals, food and medicine. Your tour will end with a swim under a waterfall and a snack of fresh fruit followed by a Caribbean lunch in a local restaurant. (B,L)

Today you may enjoy a day at leisure to explore the exciting Afro-Caribbean culture of Puerto Viejo. You may wish to take advantage of your hotel’s activities or take an optional tour. This region is a beach lover’s paradise with miles of pristine beaches, exotic flora and fauna, snorkeling and surfing, mountain biking and more! (B)

Check out of your hotel and meet your private driver for the transfer to Juan Santamaría International Airport where you will check-in for your onward flight. (B)
