Cambodian Temples

Deluxe Class: Phum Beitang Resort or similar accommodations

Depart your hotel early this morning by private vehicle for a special breakfast in a traditional Khmer home near Srah Srang Reservoir. After breakfast, visit Banteay Srei, a tiny, enchanting temple and one of the jewels of this remarkable city. Continue to Banteay Samre, built under Suryavarman II and Yasovarman II in the early 12th century, a Hindu temple in the Angkor Wat style. Return to Siem Reap, stopping for a lunch en route at Devatas Restaurant. After lunch, witness the monumental magnificence of Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Khmers, with its Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the stunning Bayon temple. Following your temple visit, return to your hotel to freshen up before transferring to see a Phare Circus Show, a uniquely Cambodian, daringly modern cultural entertainment. More than just a circus, Phare performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent. (B,L)Note: During the visit of Banteay Srei temple, visitors are required to wear a proper attire, covering shoulders and knees as this temple is still considered as a sacred site (no short, miniskirt or short trousers).

Day

3

Angkor Wat

Deluxe Class: Phum Beitang Resort or similar accommodations

This morning, transfer by private, luxury vehicle to visit Ta Prohm, the temple that has been left largely in its natural state since its “re-discovery” by French explorers. Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with the roots and limbs of massive banyan trees, which envelop the stone like tentacles. Then, visit Preah Khan, "The Sacred Sword," an extensive monastic complex covering over 56 hectares, built by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a monastery and teaching complex. After your temple exploration, stop for lunch at Chanrey Tree Restaurant. This afternoon, head to the Angkor Conservation Center for an exclusive visit to see where all stolen and newly discovered stones are preserved. Later, visit Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world, with a volume of stone equaling that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. It is unlike all the other Khmer temples in that it faces west, and is inspired by 12th century Hinduism. Return to your hotel this evening for a farewell BBQ dinner including a bottle of house wine, in a special venue set up in front of the villa. (B,L,D) Note: During the visit of the Bakan tower of Angkor Wat temple, visitors are required to wear a proper attire, covering shoulders and knees as this temple is still considered as a sacred site (no short, miniskirt or short trousers). Children under twelve years old are not allowed to climb up this tower. It will be closed on the Buddhist Sabbath Days, the Buddhist religious days, and four days a month in accordance with the Lunar Calendar.
