Best Time to Visit

Generally, Broome has two seasons: the dry one, from April/May to September, is the best to visit the area; the wet season is very hot and rainy. Most tourists visit between June and August, when, in addition to warm weather and clear skies, it's possible to admire whales migrating off the Northern shore. To avoid most of the crowds, enjoy great swims and beach life, and admire luxurious vegetation right after the wet season, come in June. April and May are also beautiful months, but they're not suitable for swimming due to the presence of potentially dangerous jellyfish (see "Health and Safety"). September can still be enjoyable, but the weather starts to be quite hot.

Passport / Visa

Unless you are a New Zealand citizen granted visa exemption on arrival (in most cases), you will need to obtain a visa prior to visiting Australia. Citizens of all European Union countries, as well as Andorra, Norway, Iceland, San Marino, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, and Vatican City are eligible for an eVisitor visa, which can be applied for online. For citizens of the United States, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brunei, South Korea and Malaysia, the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) entry permit is available, which can be applied for online and grants holders the right to enter Australia an ulimited amount of times for stays of no longer than 3 months per visit. Citizens of all other world countries (with the exception of Somalia) are also able to apply for a visitor visa online. Broome International Airport

The Broome International Airport is located 2 km from the centre of town and is the hub of North Western Australia. There is no scheduled bus service from the airport, though hotels and resorts have shuttle bus services. The cheapest transfer from the airport is to walk to Frederick Street and catch the Town Bus Service. There are taxis just outside the terminal and fares are quite low into town.

Public transport

The town bus service offers regular hourly services seven days a week 7:10am–7:10pm. The buses run between most accommodation and attractions around Broome including Chinatown and Cable Beach. Children from 0-16 years ride free when accompanied by an adult. You can buy your ticket from the bus driver. The bus schedule changes seasonally.
