Influenced by the Gulf Stream, Cork enjoys a mild temperate climate, making summer the warmest and most bustling season with temperatures ranging from 14 to 16 degrees Celsius (60-70 Fahrenheit). Spring and Autumn, with temperatures averaging around 10 degrees Celsius (50 Fahrenheit), offer pleasant weather and great rates for travellers. Winter brings cooler temperatures between 4 and 7 degrees Celsius (30-40 Fahrenheit), creating a quieter but equally charming atmosphere in the city.

Passport & Visa

Ireland’s passport and visa requirements vary for different nationalities. Citizens of the United Kingdom and EU countries (including Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein), need a passport or a valid ID. The rest of the citizens of other countries will need a passport. Many countries, including the United States, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Australia, and New Zealand, benefit from visa-free entry for tourism short stays of up to 90 days maximum. For those requiring a short-stay visa (valid for 3 months maximum), such as travellers from some Middle-East, African or Asian nations, the visa must be obtained prior to arrival. All travellers should ensure their passport is valid for at least three months beyond their intended stay. Cork Airport (ORK)

Located approximately 6 kilometres south of Cork, Cork Airport is the second-largest of the three principal international airports in Ireland. Travelling from Cork Airport to the city centre is convenient with the Bus Éireann 225 or 226 buses, which take approximately 20 minutes to reach Parnell Place Bus Station, the city's main bus hub. Tickets can be acquired on the bus, at the ticket machine outside the terminal at the bus stop, or through the TFI Go App. For those who prefer taxis, a taxi rank is conveniently situated just outside the terminal building.

Public Transport

Cork City is a compact city, making it easy to explore on foot. Additionally, public transportation offers convenient options for getting around. Bus Éireann operates an extensive network of routes connecting Cork's city centre with surrounding towns, villages, and attractions on the Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland's Ancient East. The main bus station, Parnell Place, serves as the departure point for intercity services. Cork also boasts a rail network, with lines extending from Cobh to Midleton and from Cork City to Mallow, home to Mallow Castle. To enhance the convenience of public transit, travellers can opt for a TFI Leap Card, providing savings of up to 30% compared to cash fares. This card is valid for Cork City bus services operated by Bus Éireann and commuter rail services on the Cork-Cobh and Cork-Midleton lines.

Driving

If you intend to rent a car when you’re in Ireland, make sure to familiarise yourself with the Irish road rules. In particular pay attention to the speed limits: 120km/h on motorways; 100km/h on national roads; 80km/h on regional and local roads; and 50km/h in a built-up area. Also note that, unlike in other countries, you'll be driving on the left-hand side of the road.
